I would guess that right now those parents are just completely numb. It's almost like your brain knows that you can't deal with everything all at once, and it will shut parts down that aren't essential to dealing with the immediate situation.

I know the moment I got the word that my husband was gone, it was almost like all of my emotions shut down. There were to many things I had to do, and 4 kids to take care of, and my emotions would only have crippled me at that point in time.

When my brother died suddenly(heart just stopped, no warning and they never did find out why, he was 39) I was the same way. Its a very weird thing, and took me a while to recover. It must be even worse to lose a spouse or child. Terrible.

Thanks, I like hugs. I really don't know if it is worse to loose different people that you love. I have always believed that pain is pain, and it only affects us in different ways depending on the person we have lost, how close we were to them, etc.

Some would argue that to loose a child would be the worst, but up until modern times it wasn't unusual for parents to have to bury one or more children. I know loosing my husband was bad enough, but my children have their whole lives ahead of them. I wouldn't even begin to imagine what those parents are going through.
