thank god I don't want to see another wedding for a year at least crap another friend is getting married in October but at least for that one I am not a bridesmaid so I don't have to do much but show up

hey razz... i hear ya re: wedding planning pains.
the bf and i are likely going to get hitched in a year or so... we've had the prelim. wedding talk. we both want small (VERY small)...

we decided to cut the guest list at no aunts and uncles. his mom has 9 (!!) siblings, his dad has 4, my mom's siblings are idiots and i won't have them near me at my wedding and my dad has 5 sisters(!). it just won't work.... if we invited all of them, plus spouses, its too many people, most of whom we don't know and many of whom i don't like (in the case of my mom's family)

.... so we agreed that we don't want that at all, but we KNOW the shit will hit the fan. even if we're firm on the rule (ie no exceptions for the fav aunt), its going to be hell explaining to his family 'no we don't hate you... we just want a wedding that's small.'

thats gonna be rough ehbee my sister said no kids under 12 and the shit hit the fan with that as we have alot of younger cousins and there parents got mad but its just too much money for kids that aren't going to really care anyways

exactly poly. my brother and sister in law did the same rule (cut off at aunts and uncles)- her family was great about it, mine was not. my grandfather was pissed because they each invited a friend but not the aunts and uncles that have caused nothing but pain and chaos in our lives. hey guess what? sometimes the 'but they're family' explanation doesn't work anymore, especially when your friends don't cause pain and chaos.

we're going to have a post wedding open house at our place that anyone can drop in on. that should appease the families a bit... we just refuse to have 100+ people at the ceremony whom we don't care about, don't know or don't like. hell, its OUR wedding, its about US. not our families.

K I got to go and pick up my medicine from the pharmacy and then run up to the fairgrounds and get our weekly passes weeeeeeeeeeeeee its set up weekend

yea she did not want 30+ small children running around and crying when a child's plate still costs over 30$ they could be happy at home with a baby sitter

NO EXACTLY!!!! But the problem is that in the Indian culture... you really do have to invite EVERYONE and their mom. Although we cut kids off too (except for cousins, b/c he's really close to all his cousins, they're basically siblings. and considered siblings in that culture, as well). So that doesn't help things. But I knew this would happen before we got engaged, so it's ok. Just a bit different from how I imagined things ;-).
