frankly i was kind of happy the belt buckle was gone for a second. i was hoping he'd finally get a new one! (i know, i'm mean. Wink) but it was very sweet of her, really!

yeah, and i was thinking the exact same thing mama... second time now in two episodes that we get to see booth's apartment.. which we'd hardly ever seen before.. there's gotto be a reason for that! Wink

i really like the episode a lot! except for the ending. they could have done a lot more with the whole scenario. i was really hoping for a kiss or some kind of emotional scene between those two. i could have done without the army cemetery though, teddy's ghost showing up in dress uniform and brennan actually seeing him. that was a little too absurd for me.

I love that Brennan asked Booth who he saw. It seems like a normal question, but it's one that she might not think to ask. Because obviously...ghosts aren't real. Except the fact that she saw him. I was kind of expecting her to say something like "What would a ghost possibly have to say?"...and then for him to be like "I love you." *pause* "To Claire, that woman over there." So it would sort of be the easy way out, but yeah. I wanted the kiss, but the moment on the helicopter was made of awesome. I just wish it would have been a little longer.

I feel bad for Jared, because the ONE time he does something good and stands up for his Big Bro...he gets busted for it. But he redeemed himself, so it's cool.

I'm...not as excited about the next episode. It looks cool and all, but w/Booth out of commission (which could mean actually getting some talk about what happened, and not just never mentioning it again)...and maybe Perotta will actually have a point in the next one.

But GAH...Booh's apartment. Booth's bed. Two episodes in a row now. It looks like we'll be seeing it next ep too. Hmm. Laughing

that's something that kind of bothers me about the whole show. (well, not bad, just a little... Wink) that people and incidents just seem to be forgotten in an instance. how they never talked about the mistletoe kiss, never talked about his fake death, how russ is never mentioned anymore.. that kind of thing. anybody feel the same way?

i'm afraid it'll be the same now. they'll just forget booth was ever kidnapped and everybody thought he was going to die.

After I went to bed, I had two more and that was one of them, I'll go amend the list with:

Brennan getting Booth a new cocky belt buckle--I've always wanted her to get him a buckle!
&
Booth wearing that tan trench coat from Yanks in the end--that coat is just hot for some reason--hot as in SEXY AS HELL-hot. (Of course it has everything to do in how he wears it on those broad shoulders of his.) Wink

The Hero in the Hold-DISCUSSION - Page 18 Empty Re: The Hero in the Hold-DISCUSSION

Post by HeyHey Sat Feb 07, 2009 5:38 am

My first reaction - not my favourite episode by a long way... lots of plot-holes I couldn't overlook and a slightly disappointing ending (for me). I wanted the 'thank you' to be in the helicopter and be more emotional, not just the hug (which was good, but too short!). I agree it could have done with being 2 episodes. I found Heather Taffett to be sufficiently creepy, but it all seemed very rushed.

The ending was just weird, after last week's ending where they were so close, I kind of wanted just a little touch between them, or more twinkly eyes at least! I didn't expect a kiss, I knew we wouldn't get that. It just felt like there could have been something more.

Some good stuff though too. I'm going to watch it again with no BWS and see how I feel!

I agree about stuff never being followed up on the show too - it's quite disappointing sometimes - but then, I guess that's why I read fanfic!

Post by suzyquzy Sat Feb 07, 2009 6:01 am

After watching the episode again, I feel ready to make a couple of
comments about the season as a whole and the past three episodes
in particular.

The last three episodes have marked a change in all of the regular cast
members direction in their characters development. Some more subtle than
others.

As a coincidence or not these same three episodes mark both the leads
being listed as full Producers.

The B/B relationship is moving very very quickly now. Bones is now beginning to
take over the Zack role of being overly analitical. Booth seems to be
totally and constantly tuned into Bones every thought as well as anticipating
most of her reactions to things.

As far as this particular episode is concerned..I loved it.

I think Booth was alone on the ship. Why you ask.... Booth has shown that
he can sculpt...first a horse and now a mermaid. Anyone who has come close
to death knows very strange things can happen in your mind and by extension
to your body. He had to go to his war place to get out of the situatiion
he found himself in. Booth has probably been talking to Ted in his mind and out loud for a very long time..He was Booths best friend.

As I see the B/B relationship now. He would die for her and she would kill for
him. Talk about someone seething on the inside our Bones has turned into
a real slugger. How many people has she attacked now? I could go on and
on..I sure hope "Bones" does.

All of the episodes have been well worth waiting for.

ForensicMama wrote:Just a few thoughts:

1. Loved Brennan telling Booth off.

2. LOVED THE ANGST in the episode.

3. Loved Booth telling Brennan that he hoped she was looking beautiful--that's close enough for me.

4. Loved Brennan SMACKING THE CRAP out of AUSA Heather Taffet's head! I was like, "HIT HER! HIT HER!.... DANG! YOU GO, GIRL!"

5. Loved hearing about Booth's past!

6. Loved Booth's conversations with Teddy... The conversation about, "Do you have a partner?" Then you could see it in Booth's posture what he expected out of Teddy's mouth--and he got it. haha

6. Loved Teddy asking if he had ever loved someone but had never told them--Yes, he does-- *heart skips a beat*

7. Loved that Jared redeemed himself! I knew he would! He got arrested after all, but for helping to save his brother!

8. I absolutely LOVED that Brennan was the one to be there for Booth, pulling him into the helicopter, hugging him.

9. I love that Brennan relented and asked who the ghost was, then that Booth said that he was not responsible for Teddy's death. I'm sure that's a huge relief to him.

10. Then I LOOOOOOOVED that Brennan saw Teddy, too. That was perfect.

11. I love that the Gravedigger was totally unexpected--a female, an attorney, perfect.

12. I love that we saw another side of Hodgins!

13. I love that Angela told Brennan that of course she loved Booth, they all did. Then you could tell that Brennan told herself, in her mind, that she did love him, then went and did what she had to do to save Booth.

14. 2 explosions--I love explosions hehehe--And that helicopter scene, on the deck of the carrier was totally movie quality... of course that was fab.

15. MY HUSBAND EVEN LOVED THE EPISODE AND FREAKED WHEN MEGAVIDEO SAID WE'D HIT OUR LIMIT! That's awesome. That says my hubby even loved it... hehehehe

16. I love that Booth's bedroom is sexy... and, why, pray tell, do we have a bedroom set already made up? muwahahha

Edit to add:

Brennan getting Booth a new cocky belt buckle--I've always wanted her to get him a buckle!

The other thing that bothered me about the episode, and I do realise this is completely ridiculous, is that Bones had those MASSIVE earrings on all the way through. They must have been really sore on her ears by the end of the 21 hours - I was like 'just take them off!'! I wasn't keen on the flasher mac either. But I realise these are extremely minor quibbles and she wouldn't have had much time to consider her wardrobe. Very Happy Just had to get it off my chest. Very Happy

The Hero in the Hold-DISCUSSION - Page 18 Empty Re: The Hero in the Hold-DISCUSSION

Post by queen bess Sat Feb 07, 2009 6:37 am

hmmm... i think it's time i added my opinion to this mess! i liked this episode, yes there were some things that grated slightly, but overall i think they pulled it off considering the level of anticpation from the fans and the large time gap between this episode and aliens.

first the issue of the identity of the grave digger, originally (and correct me if i'm wrong) but the grave digger was supposed to be the journalist from aliens, but they changed their minds and left that episode open ended so the reveal in this was always going to come out of nowhere. i thought the actress did a great job looking truly creepy and while it might have been nice to hear a bit of her motivation it was ultimately going to be something along the lines "i'm a freaky sociopath, i like to kill people" which while it would have been mildly satiisfying in the moment isn't really very interesting. on reflection i quite like that they kept her silent, i feel it fit with the anonymity of the crimes and allowed screen time for other plot points.

second the 'ghost' of teddy parker. i am of the opinion that he was a hallucination and not a ghost, this show may toy with the possibilites on occasion (headless witch and santa in the slush) but ultimately it is a scientific show with a whimsical side and for me a ghost is just a step too far. we must not forget that booth has been drugged, electrocuted, is under great stress and it is, somewhat convieniantly, the anniversary of a traumatic event all of which could contribute to a hallucination and more specifically the hallucination of teddy. to address the issue of teddy 'helping' him, your mind can fill in blanks with all sorts of things and also if you notice teddy never really suggests things but just tells booth things he already knows. as a plot device i think he is well conceived, just watching booth down there on his own would have been dull and he offered insight to booths past which is massively overdue! as for brennan seeing him at the end, i am going to try and take that as a symbol of her acceptance that what booth saw is real to him and her belief in him, rather than him actually being real...

brennan. i know a lot of people may have liked to have seen a little more emotion from her in this episode, and originally i was with you but as i watched the scene where she gets the phone call and the absolute look of horror (so well done my emily deschanel) convinced me of the pain she was feeling. furthermore the tacit acknowledgment of her experience early on in the episode reenforced, for me, the unspoken and less demonstrated agitation she must be feeling. her willingness to break all the rules she has built for herself by being prepared to give evidence back to the grave digger and also following booth like heart vs head advice from angela i think said a lot more about how affected she was by booths absence that any tears or shouting would have done. lastly her damning conviction of jared redeeming herself for believing him so unquestionably in conman and walloping the gravedigger with the briefcase provided nice counter point to how deceivingly calm she was for the rest of the episode.

ok... i promise i am nearly done (and if you have read all of this, then well done you! this is seriously just my ramblings).

lastly the element of this episode that made my little shipper heart squee, the acknowledgment on both sides of a deeper bond they share. while i'm sure many fans are convinced that they know they love each other, it will be very hard for even die hard non-shippers to deny the unspoken agreement on both side shown in this episode that they love each other (maybe not "omg i love you, lets have babies and live happily ever after" love, but more than just partners and just friends). also the hug on the helicopter, while i wish it had been a little longer is was, in my humble opinion, the most passionate hug they have ever shared, brennan practically threw herself at him and there was no thinking or hesitation on either part and i think that is this wasn;t a tv show that relied on UST to draw in viewer and they were normal people they would have kissed.

i am not saying there weren't flaws to this episode (the one thing that annoyed me most is that brennan is walking around with freaking huge earrings in all night, who wouldn't have taken those out?!) but i think some of the problems people have with it are a result of not looking closely enough and wanting a BB outcome that just isn't possible at this point in the season.

once again i apologise for the length... once i started i couldn't stop..... also it it is too long and too late here for me to seriously spellcheck it or go fix all the grammar, so sorry about that....

oh one more thing!!! i really liked how brennan used the same words to call booth to the helicopter that she used in wannabe to try and keep him conscious. whether not not that was a conceit of the writers or emily deschanel isn't great at addlibbing i thought it harkened back to the episode well, linking the danger booth was in in each situation and the effect in has on brennan.

To me the episode felt kinda rushed. And I am not a fan of the whole ghost-thing, though I understand it as a plot device. And there really were some inconsistencies in the story that some of you mentioned: e.g. no one from the FBI looking for Booth; Heather Taffett getting Booth out of the house and into a ship all by herself in a short time. But I still enjoyed the episode b/c it's Bones all right. It was no Aliens in the Spaceship, but that would have been hard to achieve since AitS is one of my all time faves. (When Hodgins says: "Dr Brennan it's been a priviledge..." I always want to cry like a little schoool-girl) I will go back and try to love Hero whole-heartedly, as well. Maybe it has to grow on me Very Happy

haha,I noticed the earrings as well...somehow they were just hitting her while walking which seemed very uncomfortable...
but I shouldn't complain. I just wore earrings similar to these for 15hours... and they hurt... but I wouldn't take them out since I love them... but on the other hand I didn't have the love of my life to worry about.

I'm a little disappointed that we didn't get to see this event where they were going... I'd have loved to see BB dancing once again. it has been years
