Oh, not turned off at all! In fact I'd love to go to a game, but the closest arena is in Nashville, a couple hours away!

About tonight's game, I don't see that I can get it. The couple times I've watched the Flyers they were on NBC on a Sunday afternoon. I didn't see any hockey on my sports listings tonight at all. Thanks for the offer though!

DBCrazy wrote:Thanks Fly & CB for the hockey lesson. Those were some nasty clips of fighting. I can go for watching it on TV, but it would be culture shock for me to actual watch it in the arena, or at least the walking out to the parking lot afterwards!! All the sporting events that I've ever been to - baseball, football, basketball, soccer - a fight with even a smidgeon of that intensity means trouble outside! Makes me feel football is really just a walk in the park!!

But I can't imagine a mother taking her little boy to sign him up to play! I heard David say in an interview once that he didn't get to play hockey because his mother wasn't going to get up and take him to practice at that ungodly hour of the morning, but I suspect that she used that as an excuse to keep him out of the game!

All my nephews play hockey and they are 9,6, and 3 and they don't fight, they aren't even allowed to bodycheck yet....they learn those skills much, much, MUCH later. My brother-in-laws mom was the same way....she thought it was too violent so she never put him in hockey and now that she sees her grandsons play she kind of feels a little guilty about it.

DBCrazy wrote:Bella, Really all I was getting at with the fighting question, was something along the lines of ... does hockey in some form date back to the Vikings, or something "brutal" like that?

But really it is amazing that in the pc world that we live in that they let them still go at each other like they do!! Believe me, I'm just an outsider. I don't seek to change a thing - just to understand what I'm watching!

Haha, no it's not from "vikings", and don't worry, I wasn't offended at all. I just think it's hilarious that all these people pay HUGE money for a ticket, 'cause they can, and then are offended at the 'game'. If you don't like a physical game then watch baseball. Football is definitely a pretty brutal sport, but they get all their aggressions out during the play with all the hitting and the tackling. I think the most hardcore brutal sport is rugby or australian rules football, those are CRAZY brutal. I hate the fact that it's so "PC" out in the world now, but so many people are scared to "offend" anyone while doing anything, that it's getting a little "oatmeal" out there, you now really bland and kinda warm. Anyhoo, I'm rambling and I don't think I'm making any sense anymore.

HOCKEY RULES!!

If you wanted to watch, they are on Versus tonight, which is a national sports channel. Most people I know get that channel through their regular cable. I know that cup gets it in Michigan, and fab in Georgia. But if not, I think that they are on NBC again this Saturday.

Ha my mother never let me play until I was like 11 either.
Most younger kids don't throw body checks until high school unless you are playing in a really good league. Fighting certainly isn't tolerated until you're a pro basically.

Thanks everybody! It's neat that the fighting doesn't start until they're much older, but what's that like if you've been playing your whole life, then all the sudden somebody lays you out on the ice wailing on you??!!

I've never heard of Versus. Good name for a sports channel though!

What's this they're playing now, best out of 5? Is there a bracket anywhere for the Stanley Cup?

And Bella I didn't think you were put out with me. I guess I just didn't do a good job of punctuating my post. You guys all seem friendly in here and ready to help someone interested to find out what's going on!!

It's the Stanley Cup playoffs, best of 7 series. Right now it's 16 teams, then the next round will be 8, then 4, then the top 2 of each Conference, (Eastern and Western), will play in the Finals. And check out NHL.com, it will give you all the details.

I could probably get [Only admins are allowed to see this link] but streaming it won't be a possibility, because I have two Xbox Live addicts at home!!

At least it's best of 7 and not best of 5! They win at home tonight and still if they were to lose one at Pittsburgh then they'd still get to come home again!

There's various sites that you can get live games at. They usually update the day of games. I'll go find the sites later because they are good. It's how I'll be watching the playoffs after school.

Yes, xbox live is great for Call of Duty. That's the best game ever!!

Did the Flyers lose? CBC was showing that game then switched to Van/StL once that game started.
