Half the fun of football matches is making up the chants, and people are saying you can't even hear them over the horns... ah well. I don't see how they can ban them, everyone seems to have one.himbeer29 wrote:Nightowl wrote:The VUVUZELAS!!!! I haven't actually watched a match yet, but everyone is talking about them. no, you can't hear anything. And yeah... it certainly looks like it! My husband wants to get his own... apparently the airhorn app he downloaded to his phone isn't enough noise for him ;-).

hahaha... yeah, that's most people's response. It's really my husband who "discovered" it... he read that Paul Klee (a favorite artist of both my husband and myself) spent some time there that he found to be inspirational, and influenced a lot of his work, so he (my husband) started reading about Tunisia... wanted to go there... we had an excuse for a trip, and that was that :-). And it was amazing... the people are among the nicest I've ever met... we ran into a girl in a supermarket who ended up inviting us to dinner at her home, where her mother made us a HUGE, delicious meal. And the place is just... gorgeous. And a new, different experience. Plus, we wanted to go to North Africa, and it's right across from Italy (we had agreed to go to the Amalfi Coast for the honeymoon already). LOL. Enough of an explanation? ;-)

You have happily supplied this jury with sufficient information. That is amazing, I love exotic places. What is it like there? Dry? Arid? Tropical? Re: I Hart Booth Fan Club
Germany is always a threat. I'm from Ireland, so needless to say I am NOT cheering for France. I like South Korea, but I sort of hope an underdog African team takes it. It would be great to win it on home soil. So to speak. It would be great for developing nations to put the thrill of organized sport into the youth. All it takes is something like that, but I am a realist, and know that Brazil will probably take it... hehehimbeer29 wrote:Nightowl wrote:Perhaps a real airhorn? LOL! Ahhhh... well, it's Mediterranean, so not really dry or arid. And it rained a couple times there... there's lots of green. But, we were there in the spring, and most people said it was going to get much hotter as the summer went on. In the south of the country (we didn't make it there... had some luggage issues that kind of trapped us in the north) it's the "foothills of the Sahara." So much more desert-like. There are oases... it's where they filmed Star Wars, and at least some of Indiana Jones... and the English Patient (I think). I very much wanted to see the Star Wars stuff... we were supposed to go to the place where they did the outdoor shots of the bar on Tatooine (where the "Han shot first" scene was ;-)).
Throughout the country there are a lot of Roman and Punic ruins... we went to the ruins of Carthage and they were just amazing. And what made it especially cool is the fact there were almost no tourists at the sites. Few tourists anywhere, even though they do rely on tourism. Anyways, you should go, if you get the chance. It's amazing. :-)

oh as an edit... we didn't make it to the Star Wars place... due to the luggage issues. We didn't get our luggage til the 3rd day there... and couldn't leave the city without it (they wouldn't ship it anywhere). Still had a great time though!

and yes... I'm all for underdogs. And, I totally agree with you, it's the best way to get people interested in the sport (any sport)... give them something to cheer for!
