I agree with you! Still thought it was good episodesadhbh wrote:In the first two seasons there was truckloads of emotional/character development moments that were well written into the script instead of this sometimes beaten over the head with it feel that I got from last night.
I should probably stop commenting on this now, because I'm in a bit of an out of sorts mood and I'm sure that's contributing to my feelings towards last nights ep.

Re: ~ 5x08 The Foot in the Foreclosure ~ SHOW DISCUSSION
I am completely with Moonlight and sadhbh about the cases. I mean, I do like the character development (all the more because at long last we appear to be getting somewhere), but this is a show about solving crimes, with romance on the side, not a "love story with detective interruptions."
I'm sure if HH were to read this, he'd throw his hands in the air that we're never satisfied, not to mention inconsistent and fickle. Get B&B together! No, focus on the cases!
They used to be able to balance this a little better though, not to mention a little more focus on the rest of the team. I've had a hard time in the last few Inkslingers talking about the Squints. They seem to float in, bearing news and updates and waft out again, leaving minimal impressions. I want some Hodgins!
Not so sure I agree about the silliness aspect of the cases; there's been some bizarre aspect to a lot of them in the past...talk to me a few more episodes in.
My, I am just full of quotes today! That one is the description of a Dorothy Sayers novel...Busman's Honeymoon, if I'm not mistaken.

Oh I am sure HH is just banging his head against a wall here going what the HELL???!!! What do you people WANT????
I appreciate that we don't make it easy for him, they just need to find a nice balance. So far in Season 5, they seem to be hitting it close to the mark, so hopefully they will keep going well. I think I am just getting impatient, finally, with the B&B storyline. Either make some progress, or give it a bit less screentime, because this agonizingly slow build, although I'm sure will have a fabulous pay-off, is taking over at times and that, as I mentioned, is starting to irritate me.
I do totally agree with you about the squints-they get sidelined way too much, at the expense of B&B. I am aware that they're the principle characters, but please don't shove the squints aside!
Oh, and pick an intern! Or two. I think it was in Rob's inkslinger, or maybe it was yours, sorry I can't remember, one of you pointed out, why is Clark even in the intern rotation when he's a fully fledged forensic anthropologist. I assume the rotating interns is a mechanism for Brennan to fulfill her teaching obligations whilst keeping them all at arms length-as we saw a few eps ago, she has learnt it's best not to get too close But still. One and a half seasons of rotating interns-the comedic effect is gone. Pick one. Integrate one. Make them an intersting part of the team. Just do it already.

It's funny, Last season I use to really enjoy Clark, but not any more. I think it's cause he really doesn't fit there. Maybe. And also, his no personal life was fun for a few eps, but it is a bit boring and overplayed now...
Sigh. I am full of gripes at the moment aren't I?

I have never really liked Clark. I Love Vincent Nigel-Murray, and I do like Wendall. The gloomy guy is kind of funny, (sorry, I can't think of his name right now), and Daisy is annoying but fun. Though if they decide to only use one or two, I'd want VNM and Wendall.

I think with Wendall, the show has a chance to return to the more serious tone it had in the first few seasons, which is what I hope for. With VNM, there would be no return. He would represent the new quirky angle the show has adopted, and I don't like the finality of that =P

I always thought that Zach himself was quirky, though obviously in a different way than VNM. I like Wendall, but he's too normal. Not that it's a bad thing, but he blends in too much, at least I think so. But that's my opinion.

Re: ~ 5x08 The Foot in the Foreclosure ~ SHOW DISCUSSION
Clark. See, I feel bad sometimes because he does have a legit point in that when they're over the remains they're you know, supposed to be professional and whatever. I do think that his "Strictly professional" bit had kind of gotten old though. I get it, you don't want to talk about your personal life and you don't want anyone else to talk about theirs.
I want Wendell, and honestly I feel like when and if they do end the Squintern of the Week he'll be the one Bren chooses. I mean, he's the one we already know the most about. He plays hockey with Booth and he goes for drinks with Hodgins. We've seen bits of his past. IMO, he's the one that would fit in the best and he could do both the comedic and dramatic angle of things. VNM would be good too, but I'm totally on Team Wendell.

Re: ~ 5x08 The Foot in the Foreclosure ~ SHOW DISCUSSION
I think someone else may have said that too, that we know so much more about Wendell than any of the others, that he almost has to be the ultimate pick. And it's true, no matter who said it. I'm generally pro-Wendell, Angela aside. And even then, I'm willing to wait and see what happens.
Clark they did a real number on and I don't appreciate it. Go watch Widow's Son and Verdict--that Clark is nothing like the one in Yanks and later episodes. I mean, at the time, I preferred Zack, but Clark had a sense of humor (esp in Verdict). If they could bring that man back, I'd take him even over Wendell, but it's too late for that.
No, Mr Hanson, all we really want is a return to the first 2 or 3 season, before the writers' strike and the rest. Excellent balance of case vs personal experience, a good mix of main and secondary characters, cases that did not consistently verge into the ridiculous or perps coming out of nowhere, and some small progress on the B&B front. That's not much, is it? I mean, there have been consistency issues, but they're a little more overlooked if you can just manage the rest!

Wendell for me. VNM, Fisher, and Clark all bug the crap out of me. I even prefer Daisy or Viziri (sp?) over any of them. It's interesting how they are delving into the interns' pasts this season though. But with this epi, Clark's bit about his grandfather just seemed...out of place. Like the writers just stuck that bit of info in for the hell of it. Wendell's background is much more interesting and was dealt with properly. It doesn't seem to me that TPTB will be getting rid of the rotating interns any time soon, though.

I have a small bone to pick: why haven't we heard ANYTHING about Brennan's grandfather, who supposedly got her out of the foster system? Booth's granddad saved him from his abusive father, we get it, that's great...but supposedly, Brennan's granddad saved her too. This would have seemed like an incredibly appropriate episode to bring that up and have some continuity.

Re: ~ 5x08 The Foot in the Foreclosure ~ SHOW DISCUSSION
True. But these are the writers of Bones, and continuity is a word not all of them are familiar with, apparently. Wanna bet they forgot until some fan reminded them? I mean, there was that Tweet recently posted (here or in the Inkslinger thread), and they've decided that Brennan did have a grandfather who got her out of the system. Since it was never mentioned again, a lot of us decided it was a polite fiction she maintained for her own privacy, protection, and dignity. Ah well.Meegs82 wrote:I have a small bone to pick: why haven't we heard ANYTHING about Brennan's grandfather, who supposedly got her out of the foster system? And you've got a point. While I didn't find Clark mentioning his Gramps out of place, Brennan referring to hers would have been a little more fitting.

Oh yes, continuity and "Bones' writers" don't exactly belong in the same sentence.
