she hasn't been wearing very many clunky necklaces at all this season, I don't know if that was a writers nod to the fact that a lot of people had noticed this, or if it's somehow story related??? Did she wear it in tEitB? Does it mean anything at all or was it just randomly inserted?

Booth in leather jacket and jeans at the end helped soften the stupidity of the necklace conversation. Maybe Hart and company think they can show Booth in leather then have him say "anything" and we the women viewers won't notice the asininity of what Booth says.

I think the necklace was Booth's awkward way of beginning to flirt with Brennan. Pops tells him that he's got all he needs inside and he takes that and runs with it. He even throws in Pop's "I don't think so" line. Has he ever complimented her jewelry or her looks outside of a formal occasion? Now she knows he's seeing more about her...though if I were him, I'd be looking at the bewbies, b/c once again, her girls were front and center in the tops she wore!
I'm wondering if he'll be flirting with her more and more now as the season goes on...

That's the way I saw it--a start at actual, deliberate flirting. Consider his smile afterwards.
And the necklace--I'm sure it shows up at other times, but it is definitely in Glowing Bones--she's wearing it when she makes the mac'n'cheese.

I liked the episode (WHAT?!.. Yes, I'm so generous!) I liked Hank. The Booth Family insight. And the flirting scene at the very end of the episode.

Don't really get what's the fuss about the necklace. Pops told Booth to follow his heart, I guess the necklace compliment was just something he did to start with the whole heart following thing. Loved it. He made a compliment to the woman he loves. What's the big deal? He could've also said: Nice shirt you're wearing. Is this new?

I didn't have an issue with the 'flirting' thing, I thought it was cute...I just thought it was stupid that he said he liked that 'thing around her neck'. That's what I had a problem with. Who says that?? Say, 'I like your necklace', or 'you look great today', or something like that. I just thought the way he said it was stupid.Thnx4theGum wrote:I think the necklace was Booth's awkward way of beginning to flirt with Brennan. Much as this pains me, my boyfriend would easily refer to a pretty necklace as "that thing around your neck". He's brilliant in lots of others ways and I know him and I know he's complimenting me without being too serious, but he's still say it. Much as he'd refer to my gorgeous shoes as "yolks" or "implements of torture that you spent too much money on". Not shoes though. I know a couple of other boys who would also say this. I also know boys who would not.
Booth probably was unsure as to how to even try and flirt with Brennan. Could have been his stupid boy way of trying to inject some humour and lightness into what was potentially an out of the blue thing to say.
I just thought, you know, at least he's finally doing/saying something. Maybe now they can stop beating us over the head with the fact that, wow, did you hear, had you guessed? Booth loves, (wait for it)....BONES!! And Bones, well, she probably loves him too. But they're both SCARED!! Too scared to admit it to the other.
gee, do we get it yet?
I realised that there's actually a whole heap of character development behind all of this build up, and all of these conversations, however, I am tired of all talk and no play. It's starting to get irritating, rather than interesting. And I did not think I would be saying that.
So either do something, or stop beating us over the head with it all the time. Show us some damn science! Pick a damn squintern! Have hodgins bond! Have Angela do something artsy!!
Just do something!! I feel like we're in danger of stagnating. Hell if we move any slower, we'll move backwards.
I'm in a bit of an impatient mood (clearly. I'm realising this more as I write). The episode was ok. I'd probably only give it a 3 maybe though. After watching i had a look at the spoiler chat and someone mentioned they felt pops was almost too much of a charicature. I think I sort of felt that too. And I know all too well where Booth was coming from, watching a much loved elderly relative decline, I'm sure many of us unfortnately do. I think they just had too much fun with it. And he just felt, I dunno, not what I thought his Grandpa would be. Maybe I'm just disappointed with what I got...
I only wanted to make the point about the necklace and my boyfriend, but once I started....

Also, I don't like the promo. just watched it there.
But then again, they are making them look a bit useless in the promos. I really thought I would hate dwarf in the dirt from the promo, but I actually really enjoyed it, so I'm going to have hope. And lots of it.

Re: ~ 5x08 The Foot in the Foreclosure ~ SHOW DISCUSSION
I thought one of the truest moments in the entire episode was when Hank told Booth "I used to cook for you all of the time" when clearly now, he can't help but make mistakes. Maybe it's because I have elderly grandparents I'm very close with, but that moment really hit home for me. It was important that we see Booth in that relationship with a parental (or in this case, grandparental) figure.
The case was "ugh" for me. What happened to normal murders? Maybe it's just me, but the cases are starting to get too fantastical, with Club Jiggle this week and dwarfs last week. It's like they're trying to out-do themselves by making the cases stranger and stranger. I'm growing to dislike the weird-factor of it all.
I liked Brennan's face when Hank spoke to her at the end. She did a great job of showing the conflict within herself - her heart knows but her head just hasn't caught up to the truth yet. Very nice.
As for the necklace, fine by me! Keep the flirting up - as long as it leads somewhere. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for kissing in the Christmas episode: it's about time we get rewarded for our patience and B&B finally act on their feelings somehow!

Re: ~ 5x08 The Foot in the Foreclosure ~ SHOW DISCUSSION
I honestly think Brennan's the one who's known her feelings all along. People always assume it was Booth that Gordon Wyatt was talking about when he told Sweets that "...one of them is acutely aware of that attraction, struggles daily with it...". I think it Brennan who knew all along, she knew at least as far back as FitI that she was in love with him, if not HitH definitely crystalized her feelings. Brennan isn't as clueless as people think and while she can't read most people she's shown she can read Booth pretty easily. She knew, during that scene in Mayhem she knew he didn't yet feel the same about her.ReginaPhalange wrote:I liked Brennan's face when Hank spoke to her at the end. She did a great job of showing the conflict within herself - her heart knows but her head just hasn't caught up to the truth yet. Very nice.
Her playing coy, her finally deciding after a year of dating no one to date Hacker, it's not because she doesn't love Booth, it's because she was convinced after Harbingers that he didn't return her feelings, and worse, all the things she's told Sweets about? That he isn't afraid of clowns, he starts off on the wrong foot, holds the phone in a different hand, drinks coffee with the other hand as well? She's not convinced her Booth is back yet. This is the single most important relationship she has, more than Angela, moreso than Max or Russ. Booth is her best friend, confidante, and partner - losing him would devestate her. So when we see her turmoil as Hank is talking to her it's not that She's waiting for her brain to catch up to her heart, it's that she's torn between protecting her heart and risking everything on a chance that Booth will feel the same about her.
Sadly I think she's right to wait. I mean in Dwarf Booth had no problem listing several reasons why it wouldn't work out with Brennan or claiming she didn't love him. He's the heart guy, he's the reader, if he can't see what the rest of us see, if he has no faith in them as a couple then why should she? No, I think what Hank was saying to her really was that she had to be strong enough for both of them, that she had to be the one who was going to take the risk because as big and strong as Booth is, he can't do this alone.
That's my take on it anyway.

Re: ~ 5x08 The Foot in the Foreclosure ~ SHOW DISCUSSION
The situation with the necklace scene didn't really bother me much, because now it feels like we're actually headed somewhere. As far as him referring to it as "that thing around your neck", well...he's a guy, and yeah it might have been better had he just called it a necklace, but it seemed to me like maybe he was nervous or something like that and he's trying to get comfortable with the idea. He's still not all the way back yet, but he's taking Pops' advice so I guess that is a good thing.
As far as who was in love first, I did think it was Booth back when Wyatt said it, but as we're seeing this season play out I'm beginning to think it's Brennan. Booth is the heart guy, the one who always knows what's right for her and such. What happened to him with the tumor and the coma kind of shook her. It's interesting to think about what might have happened had that whole situation not happened. She already asked him to father her child, so would she have eventually told him how she felt?
I don't know. It just seems that the whole situation made her realize how easily she could lose him, and the idea scares her. What she's doing right now is the same as she was before only...amped up? I'm not sure that is the right way to say it, but basically Brennan is still trying to debate whether the loving him and risking herself by laying it all out there is worth the risk of getting hurt.

Re: ~ 5x08 The Foot in the Foreclosure ~ SHOW DISCUSSION
See, I know all this, as I said, I know the character development is there for a reason, but the reason I started watching, was really cool cases, kick ass crime solving and lots and lots of UST. And they were quiry. I like quirky.
But now, the cases, as pointed out, are fantastical. Regular murder that's been covered up well and shows super cool invetigative skills, is really cool too. And a bit less of a joke.
There's just less cases, less crime solving. And that's all ok, but I didn't start watching Bones for this amazing romance. It's a nice side product, but it can't be all about the love every week. That's what I have Grey's anatomy for-a show that never set itself up to be anything except a soap opera on a surgery floor, not the other way round.

See, while I don't necessarily watch for the case file stuff, I find it interesting too. I have noticed a shift lately toward more bizarre and outlandish cases, and it's often in those episodes that the main focus is on the relationships rather than the case itself. Some of these cases are interesting, but I do agree that they should (or, well, that they could), go back to the cases that were difficult to solve with interesting suspects rather than the wierdest way they find the victim. It feels like they haven't been taking the cases as seriously as they used to.
Not that I mind the relationship stuff of course.

In the first two seasons there was truckloads of emotional/character development moments that were well written into the script instead of this sometimes beaten over the head with it feel that I got from last night.
I should probably stop commenting on this now, because I'm in a bit of an out of sorts mood and I'm sure that's contributing to my feelings towards last nights ep.
