Battle of the Blades - Season 2

Since willgirl and I are talking about this in the Hockey thread, I thought I'd start this here.

Season 2 of Battle of the Blades started last Sunday with a preview show to meet all the hockey players (male) and their female figure skating partner. This Sunday is the first show of the real competition, with the result show always the following Monday on the CBC. The figure skaters must teach their hockey player partners how to figure skate and then each week they perform a routine.

Competing this season is:

Ekaterina Gordeeva and Valeri Bure
Skating for: Cardiac Kids/Hospital For Sick Children (Gordeeva) and Compassion Canada (Bure)

Isabelle Brasseur and Todd Warriner
Skating for: The Heart & Stroke Foundation

Jamie Salé and Theo Fleury ---Jamie Salé is the current BOTB title holder! She and Theo will be defending her title.
Skating for: The Men's Project

Anabelle Langlois and Georges Laraque
Skating for: Hockey for Haiti

Shae-Lynn Bourne and Patrice Brisebois
Skating for: Make-A-Wish Foundation (Bourne) and Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation (Brisebois)

Violetta Afanasieva and P.J. Stock
Skating for: One x One

Kyoko Ina and Kelly Chase
Skating for: Children's Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan

Christine (Tuffy) Hough-Sweeney and Russ Courtnall
Skating for: The Archie Courtnall Center -Victoria Hospital Foundation


The new ladies this season are Katia Gordeeva (SKATING ROYALTY) who is a former paris skater from Russia (with the late Sergei Grinkov back in the 90's), Anabelle Langlois recently retired pairs skater from Canada who skated with Cody Hay; Violetta Afanasieva (I have no idea who she is); and Kyoko Ina a former USA pairs skater, who skated with SUPER DUPER INCREDIBLY HOT John Zimmerman aka JohnnyZ - seriously ladies, he's lovely.

Judges are Sandra Bezic(returning from last season) a former Canadian pairs skater and now choreographer and JR (aka Jeremy Roenick, hockey player with awesome commentary haha he's funny). I SO wish Kat Witt gets to judge again but I doubt if she'll ever be allowed on the CBC again after last year, she was hilarious. thankfully Dick Button isn't on this season. I like that there is a hockey player as a judge this season too.

Hooray! I like PJ Stock too. He seems really funny!

And Dick Button isn't a judge? Good, because he talked too long! Are they going to have a rotating guest judge again? I agree that Katarina Witt was hilarious!

And wanted to add, love me some Kurt Browning.

I'm not sure if there will be a 3rd rotating judge or not.

I was totally thinking about that. It would be so much fun!

Wow, the level has improved already. i remember after watching the first show last year thinking, I don't know if I can sit through this. Then the second episode everyone stepped up and impressed me. So far its setting up to be a good season.

Good opener tonight! Its tough to say who will be in the bottom. Its also interesting to see how people vote - are they voting for the figure skater, the hockey player, or the actual team?

So interesting, DP is coaching Jamie and Theo, from the sounds of it it just sounded like he was coaching Anabelle and Georges. Makes sense though since they were all training at the RGC in Edmonton. Jamie and DP also work well together so it's probably easier using DP as a coach to help Jamie teach Theo all the pairs stuff.

I agree!!! I couldn't vote since I was at thanksgiving dinner, so i watched this morning. Their throw was amazing!!
