The song's by a comedian/singer called Tom Lehrer. It's just kinda cool. *shrugs*

Tom Lehrer was no slouch. He was a mathematics professor at Harvard. He was also instrumental in writing songs for PBS programs like the Electric Company. The original album from whence the Elements Song comes is entitled "An Evening Wasted With Tom Lehrer" and is hysterical. He loved to take Broadway tunes - especially Gilbert and Sullivan, and put crazy lyrics to them. If I recall, there was a Broadway musical made from all of his songs in the late 80's.

I just had a long discussion about the awesomeness of Tom Lehrer on lj last week Smile Didn't know they made a musical out of his songs though, but that sounds cool. The Gilbert and Sullivan version of Clementine is hilarious. Very Happy
