The door chimed as they entered the diner, and immediately the buzz of voices reached them. It was packed as usual, customers squeezed into every read pleather seat that could be found. The smell of bacon permeated the air and they both smiled.

It wasn’t their diner, they were out of town on a case. But it definitely had the same feel. And the same food, they hoped.

“Can I help you?” a perky blonde waitress asked.

“Coffee.” They both said in unison.

Smiling at each other again, they slipped onto the stools.

“So….” Brennan started.

“Let’s order first.” Booth interrupted.

She nodded and proceeded to look over the menu. Usually she just stuck with something simple; a coffee and a bagel. But today she felt like having something different.

“French toast.” She said, responding to the waitress’s look.

Booth looked surprised but said nothing, just ordering pancakes and bacon.

Brennan looked around, soaking in the atmosphere. There were kids shouting and laughing and people talking animatedly. Both her and Booth laughed at the woman who asked for two raw eggs as part of her takeout order.

“So….” She started again.

“We should talk.” He replied, finishing her sentence.

“Last night…” she said. “Last night….”

“Last night was perfect.” He said, placing his hand over hers. “And I don’t regret it at all.”

“We can’t do this Booth, we’re partners.”

“Yes we can.” He replied. “We’re practically in a relationship anyway, Temperance. We eat dinner together and watch movies, the only thing that was missing was the physical aspect. And we did that, rather well I think.” He said, cheekily.

She blushed. “I don’t know Booth.”

“Look” he said, swivelling around and cupping her cheek with his hands. “It’s going to be hard. I know that. We are two very different people, but all I’m asking is for you to give us a shot. Whaddya say?”

She blinked back tears as she gazed into his eyes, her mind rapidly trying to assess everything he said. “Booth, I…”

The door chimed as two people entered the diner and looked around smiling. It had looked exactly the way it had before, from the red pleather seats to the shouts of children.

“Can I help you?” a waitress asked.

“Coffee.” They said in unison as they burst out laughing.

“Come on.” Booth said, gesturing to the stools. They sat down and waited for the waitress to get their coffee.

“So, what are you having?” he asked.

“French toast.” She replied, without even looking at the menu.

He grinned, that grin of his that always made her swoon and she grinned back at him.

“So…” he said. “We return to the scene of the crime.”

“Technically the scene of the crime was in the hotel across the street.” She said pointedly.

“No, it was here. Because here you decided to take a chance.” He replied.

“Stop being mushy.” She said.

“You like when I’m mushy. Admit it.” He replied, leaning close and brushing his lips against hers. The kiss deepened until she finally pulled away.

“Never.” She replied.

The waitress came back with their coffee and took their orders, leaving them alone again.

“To us.” Booth said, lifting his cup.

Brennan proceeded to do the same. “To twenty-five years.” She said.

“To taking a chance.” He replied.

They clinked their cups and smiled.

“I love you Bones.” He said earnestly, reaching over and squeezing her hand.

“I love you too Booth.” She replied.
