Re: What Do You Think Will Happen
I pretty much agree with jonezn (tho less pessimistic, shall we say?). Inconsistency was the main theme of S4. One week, a fantastic--all right, fine, Rob, et al--decent episode, maybe a little light on the crime aspect, followed immediately by one completely the opposite, even verging on farce. (I'm discounting 4D--it no longer exists for me. That one was entirely farce, and some people like that. I don't, especially not when it lands in a show that up to the current season had barely a whisper of it. Yes, Yanks should have warned us of upcoming foolishness.)RGPageantqueen wrote:I came in at t he wrong end of the conversation? Why did the 4th season suck? I just thought it was because it lacked those BB moments???
Characters wavered a bit, but especially B&B. Yes, can Brennan interrogate? Is she still a scientist? Surely she's learned something about emotion by now! If not, we missed the epi where they implanted the chip in her brain. Booth--they were heavy on the school jock image in S3 (even refers to himself that way a few times), but this was a step backward--towards the unfunny class clown with no sensitivity. Some of that can and likely will be attributed to his tumor, though medically, I don't know if that's realistic. There were some lovely eyesex moments, a handful of sweet things said and done, but Booth in a couple instances reverted back to what he likely was like on their very 1st case--before the Pilot. Think Cinderella.
Formula--yes, apt. We had all those openings where the body was found by clowns: the drunken kids, the bumbling thieves, the drunken not-so-young, and jokes to match. In other words, it was like watching one of those ridiculous movies aimed at teenage boys. And as I am an adult woman, it doesn't go over so well.
Regardless, I am looking forwards to Sept 17--hope springs eternal...at least for another season or so!

Re: What Do You Think Will Happen
I would like to see a small shift back to the science/lab stuff. I felt in seasons 1-3 the cases were stronger and Brennan cared about the victim/victim's family. Season 4 it almost felt like it was kinda oh there's some bones i better solve it. The cases were a little odd. I felt the show was very effective in seasons 1-3 with balancing the science with the character development. Cam, Hodgins, and Angela need more air time too. Some epsiodes it felt like I hadn't seen them at all.
I agree, Angela needs to return to normal. I liked how she just shot from the hip and was whimsy, it was endearing.
I like Bones because of the science/lab work plus it's ability to have good character development. I was a little worried by DB's comment to about not caring about the cases anymore. The balance of the two elements of case/character development is what sets the show apart and makes it special.

Re: What Do You Think Will Happen
David's comment doesn't completely bother me, because over all the show was about the relationships at the core of the issue. The cases-the science, really-are important, but without the relationships are what make the show what it is. You think people would still be tuning in if there was no remote possibility of them ever making any progress?
Basically, I'm of the mind that something HAS to happen before the end of this season. To be honest, it would be ideal if it could happen by Christmas but I know that's too optimstic. I just don't see what else there is left, what's holding them back from exploring that relationship. If they hold feelings back, ignoring them until they either bubble up and fester or simply dissipate, it won't be good for anybody. Brennan loves him but wants to keep their professional relationship; Booth loves her and now maybe is more free to admit it to himself. Can we move past this stagnant in-between?
I know that's impatient, but it's not enough to just have a happy ending. It's the middle, what they experience as an established couple in a comitted relationship, that really matters.

Are are Jonezy and Robert related? LOL!
I agree. I am far less passionate about the show now then I was two seasons ago. This past season was weak but it wasn't that the cases were weak (although they were) or the plot was weak (although sometimes they were), it was the full out basterdization of the characters.
Let's face it, it wasn't good. What I'd like to see in season five is a return to their actual characters. I agree about Angela entirely and I wish they would make up their mind about whether Brennan:
a)knows how to interrogate or
b) doesn't know how to interrogate
AND
a) has grown and is emotive or
b) some crazy cyborg
AND
a)actually is a forensic anthropologist or
b) just likes to follow Booth around
I'd like to see the show get a little more serious and go back to that really funny, really subtle humour they used to employ. Remember when Booth used to be serious AND funny? Now it's just one comic gag after another and it ruins the credibility of the character!
I think the problem is that they have forgotten that you can have character interaction and growth while still presenting an awesome case. Remember Boy in the Bush? Women in Limbo? Aliens in a Spaceship?
Now the cases seem to be a throwaway. That annoys me. So I'd like to see:
1. more cases
2. no Zach
3. less Sweets
4. no Roxie
5. less Angela being a crazy nympho and more of her being the true and loyal friend of Brennan
6. no babies
7. no shows that come off like bad fanfiction
8. more Hodgins
9. Some decent science
10. And better characterization!
Man, I could go on about this forever. My S1/S2 DVDS are calling my name!
Will you marry me? I don't even know who this Brennan character is anymore.

And if I have to watch another episode where the show is merely used as a vehicle for their own social/political views, I might hurl.

They've had some elements of that from the beginning (Soldier on the Grave, the stuff about animals for example), but the trick is always to cover it with hmmm, ummm, I guess you should call it entertainment. Re: What Do You Think Will Happen
That's kind of like the end of episode moments, hitting us over the head with the BB love. Some are cute and actually make something happen, but others are pointless fluffy drivel designed by HH and Co. by handing us crumbs instead of an actual piece of cake. I WANT CAKE.

Yes, but it has never been as bad--as shove down your throat my way or the highway-- as the last season was.

Re: What Do You Think Will Happen
OK. I am back to take a stab at the original premise of this thread and that is to determine the wrap up of the series. I am conflicted, for if the characterizations are not disposable - there are some elements that will be detrimental to the longevity of a B&B romance; as a matter of fact, for any of the team to find such a romance. Ultimately, it all comes down to whether or not the professional aspect of each character outweighs the pursuit of passion in a coupled environment. So based on that set of conditions I shall attempt this starting with the "easiest" and work from there. I will mingle staying true to character with hope for something transcendent.
Angela is a student of life - with no intent to ever graduate. She is not the free spirit she and most imagine her to be. She is afraid of being defined and therefore confined. She will toy with coupling again with Jack but she isn't equipped for dedication beyond being a great and steadfast friend. Her experimentation will be transferred to exploration of of the art of experiencing more in life and she and Sweets will have an on-again/off-again affair . . . Sweets is on the same journey with the twist that he is dedicated to the long-term but is afraid of the open ended. They are drawn to each other against their better judgment but it is too deliciously dangerous for both of them to pass up.
Cam and Hodgins are bemused. Neither of them is in need of identifying with status or position or wealth: Hodgins, because he has all of it; Cam, because she doesn't need any of it. They observe people from the vantage that most of humanity are sheep. Both exercise influence by persuasion although each a bit arrogantly when making an observation. However, when dismissed they become directly confrontational. They are both passionate, headstrong and intellectually equal. Hodgins knows that Cam has a freak side. One day, Cam is going to prove it to him.
Fisher and Daisy . . . think about it.
Max/Booth & Brennan - "What?" you ask. It is the only way to reassemble the bone fragments for Temperance to stop living (down?) to her name and solve the death of her own emotions. Max and Seeley have a lust for life. They don't want to analyze it, they want to experience it. The choices made by Max and Booth are the only distinguishing characteristics between them. Each is a true believer in justice and interposing their will and hazarding loss of their own life to preserve their noble values. Bones instinctively makes the connection except for one sticking point. Abandon precedes too many thoughts when considering Max's actions, especially in his daughter's mind. Unless or until Max gains access to the abandoned little girl locked behind all those doors, she is never going to come out and fully accept Booth. He could abandon her, too. Even by reckless abandon and disregard for his own health and safety. If that does not happen, that Max does not come back for his girl, Brennan will continue to be an anthropologist in her own life instead of a participant. She needs to be removed from the role of observer.
OK. So in a perfect world - Booth rescues the damsel that doesn't know she's in distress. They make love - a lot. They have babies. Booth stops taking risks because his role as guardian becomes totally shifted to family man. He takes a "desk job" as an FBI instructor of special agents and is found mostly on the firing range and teaching street smarts to rich, college students - whom he still despises. Brennan juggles and then balances career with being a Mommy, not just a mother. She totally allows for emotions without the need to explain them as chemical responders. Her passion for her work only intensifies because now every human remain is even more significant because she appreciates more what is lost when a life goes unfulfilled.

HA! You've just described like 90% of fanfiction. lol!
Re: What Do You Think Will Happen
Well in that case: In the real world, Booth would miss the hunt and feel life was passing him by and he'd watch hockey and get drunk a lot at some seedy bar. He'd switch out his interest in Bones for the biker babe waitress named Jugs. Once the babies graduated to irritating mini humans, Brennan shipped them off to private schools and science camp all summer long. They will all speak Spanish instead of English because the nanny/intern from Bolivia spent more time with the children than she did. Bones buries herself in work and fires anyone that suggests she is wasting time away from her family.willgirl wrote:jonezn4Bones wrote:

Oh.My.GOD. Switch the nanny to an au pair and make her from Montreal instead of Bolivia and that's the story of my childhood! *sniff* I miss Mama Jugs.jonezn4Bones wrote:Well in that case: In the real world, Booth would miss the hunt and feel life was passing him by and he'd watch hockey and get drunk a lot at some seedy bar.
