April 17, 2009
Fast National ratings for Thursday, April 16, 2009
[Only admins are allowed to see this link] fell off a good bit in its second week on the air, but the rest of CBS' Thursday lineup was strong enough to carry the night.
CBS averaged a 7.3 rating/12 share in primetime, easily beating the
5.2/9 for second-place FOX. NBC, 4.7/8, finished third. A rerun-heavy
night on ABC drew a 3.3/6, and The CW trailed at 1.2/2.
CBS also led among adults 18-49 with a 3.2 rating. FOX and NBC
tied for second at 3.0. ABC, 1.4, came in fourth, doubling The CW's 0.7.
[Only admins are allowed to see this link]
6.9/12, put CBS on top at 8 o'clock. "Bones" earned a 5.7/10 for FOX.
"My Name Is Earl," 3.4/6, and "Parks and Recreation," 3.6/6, took third
for NBC, beating "In the Motherhood" and "Samantha Who?," which
averaged 3.3/6 for ABC. The CW went with a "Smallville" rerun.
[Only admins are allowed to see this link]
9.7/16, gave CBS the night's biggest audience at 9 p.m. FOX's "Hell's
Kitchen," 4.7/8, just beat NBC's combination of "The Office," 4.9/8,
and "30 Rock," 4.6/7 (NBC did, however, tie CBS for the 18-49 lead in
the hour). ABC stayed in fourth with a "Grey's Anatomy" rerun, while a
"Supernatural" repeat on The CW scored a 1.2/2.
NBC took the lead at 10 with [Only admins are allowed to see this link]
6.1/11, which was on par with its premiere last week. "Harper's Island"
posted a 5.3/9 for CBS -- down significantly from its premiere -- while
a "Private Practice" rerun on ABC drew a 3.1/5.

CBS had the most viewers on Thursday and narrowly bested NBC for an
18-49 victory for the night with NBC taking the 18-34 demographic.
In its second outing Parks & Recreation dropped from a 3.0 rating to a 2.5 rating, but given the switch of lead-ins (from The Office
last week, to My Name is Earl last night), and given a series-low 18-49
rating for Earl, I’d think NBC will still be optimistic for Parks & Recreation. It beat Samantha Who? by a full 18-49 ratings point.
Southland was remarkably consistent, it dropped a mere 10th of an 18-49 ratings point to a 3.1, although week over week Southland’s lead-in was better last night. [Only admins are allowed to see this link] 30 Rock had a 3.1 adults 18-49 rating at 9:30p, last night it had a 3.5.
Southland is the best show launch NBC has had in a while
and given its consistency half hour to half hour, I expect NBC to add
“The New Hit everybody is talking about” to the promotions any second
now. We’ll have to see what happens next week when there is a new Private Practice.
The Office was the night’s most-watched show with adults 18-49,
pulling a 4.1 rating. CBS won the 8pm hour with reality granddaddy Survivor. Hell’s Kitchen
came in third for the 9pm hour with a 3.4 rating, but picked up steam
in the second half hour (3.6 vs. 3.3). Bones out-dueled the
Earl/Parks & Rec combination at 8pm (2.5 vs. 3/7).
CW was in repeats again and ABC was in repeats from 9p-11p again as well. In another week where there was no new Grey’s Anatomy, CSI
with a 3.8 adults 18-49 rating held steady over last week’s 3.7, though
it’s total viewers dropped from 16.36 million last week to 15.42
million last night. Harper’s Island, which drew a 2.7 adults 18-49
rating in its premiere last week, dropped to a 2.2.
