TV Ratings: 'Harper's Island' shores up CBS Thursday


NBC and CBS tied for first in the adult demo

Premieres of [Only admins are allowed to see this link] and [Only admins are allowed to see this link] added a bit of new blood to Thursday's lineup, but ultimately the night belonged to CBS.

CBS snagged a 7.8 rating/13 share, drawing in an estimated 12.7 million
viewers. Second-place FOX nabbed a 5.1/9 with NBC's 5.0/9 on its heels.
ABC finished with a 3.4/6, while The CW had a 1.3/2.

In the adult demo, however, it was a draw between CBS and NBC,
both doing a 3.3 rating for viewers 18-49. In third, FOX had a 2.9,
followed by ABC's 1.3 and The CW's measly 0.7.

CBS kicked off the ratings mastery at 8 p.m. with "Survivor:
Tocantins," 6.7/12. FOX came in second for the hour with a 5.6/10 for
"Bones," while NBC took third averaging a 4.4/8 for "The Office" and
premiere of "Parks and Recreation" combined. The comedy duo of "In the
Motherhood" and "Samantha Who?" averaged 3.2/6 for the hour, while a
"Smallville" repeat trailed on The CW.

At 9 p.m., "CSI" kept the ratings ball rolling with a meaty 9.9/16 for
CBS. The hour's second place was tied between FOX's "Hell's Kitchen"
and NBC's "Office"/"30 Rock" combo, all averaging a 4.5/7. A repeat of
"Grey's Anatomy" got a 3.8/6 for ABC, still ahead of the "Supernatural"
repeat on The CW.

Finally, CBS' ratings hat trick finished with a 6.7/12 for the debut of
the murder mystery "Harper's Island" in the 10 o'clock hour. It bested
NBC's premiere of "Southland," 6.2/11 (although NBC did better in the
adult demo this hour). ABC's "Private Practice" rerun was last with a
3.2/6.

On a Thursday night when most shows -- Survivor, Bones, In the Motherhood, Samantha Who?, The Office (which aired two new episodes), 30 Rock -- were down from their season averages, CBS won the ratings race thanks, of course, to CSI. As for the evening's much-publicized new programs, NBC's cop drama Southland nabbed a respectable 9.7 million pairs of eyes in ER's old 10 p.m. slot. CBS' limited-run Harper's Island lost nearly 6 million viewers from its CSI lead-in, garnering 10.5 million folks, also at 10 p.m. And NBC's Parks & Recreation drew 6.8 million people at 8:30 p.m., even though it followed an episode of The Office that had 7.2 million watchers and came before another Office that boasted 8 million viewers.

I didnt know that bones shared a timeslot with the office. if i lived in the states, id have a hard time deciding..lucky i can just download both!
But still woot to bones. 8.9 million really ain't that bad!

it doesnt share a timeslot.
the office is usually on at 9pm
but it was preempted a time ago so they aired two offices on thursday.
one at 8-8:30 then one at 9pm. I believe. I watched both but i watched
Bones 8-9 then we dvr'd the office episodes. but no the office doesnt compete
with Bones in the U.S.
