does anyone know why Jesse went from Jesse Cockrin to Jesse Catsopolous (however you spell it)

Wikipedia says that John Stamos wanted it like that...

During the first season, his full name was Jesse Cochran, but Stamos requested it be changed to Katsopolis to honor his own Greek heritage.
