Re: Fringe, anyone?
The Fringe soundtrack is officially out now... and I can't get it cuz NONE of the stores here carry it, and I don't have any type of card so I can't order it from the internet!

Really? I thought every Benchie out there would LOVE it. At least, that's the feedback I'm hearing so far. Like, there are a bunch of people who thought they'd hate it and ended up loving it. Try rewatching it, Ash, I'm going to 'cuz I know I missed some stuff.

Re: Fringe, anyone?
I just found it irritating... The singing courpses, and Olivia bursting into song in the one part... That was really weird... You can tell if you were to look and Anna and Josh's faces they were trying to keep from laughing... I don't think a few of the actors liked filming that episode very well... Same as Bones season 3 finale... You can tell that David and Emily didn't like filming it.

Actually, I thought they did the smirky thing as a *wink wink* to the 40's aesthetic theme. Have you seen how all the clasics, it seems like they're perpetually smirking? I loved it in B&W and I sure loved it in full technicolor. lol
Yeah, I saw it (thanks Meegs!!). I haven't seen Bones (my connection goes ever so slooowly), but man, am I glad I saw this. I loved every single second. I thought it was gonna be a lot more "musical" than it actually was; instead it was a bit Luhrman-esque (more R&J than MR but still, red-curtain Luhrman-esque). The anachronisms were pure Walter, like you wouldn't even need him on drugs for him to be that off-center (the cell phone killed me! ), and they were also very reminiscent of Terry Gilliam's work -very Brazil, I thought. [Uh, yeah, I've watched too many movies].
Aesthetics aside, LOVED all the callbacks to previous episodes. LOVED all the foreshadowing. The special heart, the fact that Peter was the man with a mechanic heart (oh, hai Oz! Shall we all go down the yellow-brick road, too?) until he meets Olivia -who not only mends it (all hail the sweet benchie gods of television!) but then helps him keep his real heart; LOVED the fact that Peter's heart is wonderful enough that it can work even halved (one half in each universe?!) and the benchiness of Ella, who didn't even mind that Walter got rid of Rachel by the first five minutes of the story. And how awesome was Astrid? And Broyles, who, damn, can surely sing!
And Gene, no licking! LOL
I can't stop watching this episode. I think I might *gasp* love Akiva Goldsman. I know, after A Beautiful Mind and the absolute blunder of DaVinci Code, I can't believe it either. Also, Olivia in garb gave me a Hepburn vibe.
*sigh* I love this show. This show and Bones (which is still making me happy) are keeping me sane. Good thing too, 'cause I'm waiting for a hard hit to come via NCIS and NCIS:LA by the end of May.

Oh, Ash! I'm sorry you didn't like the musical ep. Hopefully next one will be back to normal (or the Fringe equivalent). On the bright side, it wasn't story-line heavy (except for the last five minutes, maybe), so you can just skip it and it shouldn't interrupt your enjoyment of the season -if you decide to do a rewatch or something.
As for the spoiler
- Spoiler:
- ...uhm. I don't know what to say. It's a bigger gamble than the musical ep. I think. Farscape's Revenging Angel was pretty controversial back in the day. Nevermind the Stewie cameo on Bones. I... really don't know what to say.
Thanks a lot for the heads up. Great find!
- Spoiler:
- The mention in the interview of a hidden clue about next season already has me all giddy.

Re: Fringe, anyone?
Heiro, I agree with everything you said! Good point about it being Luhrmanesque. Perhaps that's another reason I liked it...Moulin Rouge is one of my fave movies! There was just SO much symbolism and SO much foreshadowing and SO much benchiness that I couldn't help but squee my little heart--pun intended--out! And hellz ya, Olivia mended Peter's broken heart! Gah, the look on her face when he "died..." let's just say Anna Torv is brilliant.
Oh, and Ella is my new hero...um, heroine.
Ash, I'm sorry you didn't like it The singing corpses WERE a bit strange, but I kinda just laughed them off. It was definitely out there for Fringe (which is saying a LOT, ha), but I think it was an interesting way to show us how all of the characters are feeling and perhaps what might happen next.

It was a really out of character episode, but you have to remember this was a narrative coming out of that wonderful soup that is Walter's mind, so I think that's why it was so bizarre.
And Anna Torv with that fedora pulled low over her brow....RAWR!!!!!

Also, here is a vague but spoiler-y interview with the man himself, AKA Mr. Spock, AKA The good doctor Bell, AKA Leonard Nimoy:
