When you read Kathy's novels...?
When you read Kathy Reichs' novels, do you picture Emily Deschanel as Tempe Brennan and/or David Boreanaz as Ryan?
With me, no, but it's getting harder and harder the more I read, because there are no descriptions for Tempe, except that she's rather thin and over 40. ROFL!

I'm reading Bare Bones, and just made the connection in my mind between Booth and Ryan. Up to this point Ryan has just been that other guy...

Nope. They are so different that I can't make that connection.

Tempe has Brown hair, hazel eyes, she is short and skinny. She had long hair, but she cut them somewhere.
It is hard to picture Emily as book Tempe, they have different pasts, and they are so different. So it is with Ryan and David. Ryan has blue eyes and blond hair - how it fits to David??
So yeah, you can't crossover the characters.

Re: When you read Kathy's novels...?
I once read that most people picture Ryan as Brad Pitt or a blonde George Clooney...
Honestly, I can't tell how I picture them. I guess, most of the time I see myself as Tempe... you know, because the novels are written in first person (the description of Tempe doesn't fit mine at all).
And sometimes I picture her as Kathy Reichs. Though Kathy is blonde. But I can't tell for sure.
Though I know, I don't picture them as Emily and David because I read the first novel BEFORE I knew about the show.

Re: When you read Kathy's novels...?
I could never picture Emily as book-Tempe.....they are so different.....the only thing they really have in common is the name......and a hot guy by their sides....
Ryan is even harder to picture.....I don't like Brad Pitt....so for me he would never look like that.....somewhere in the books Tempes daughter compares Ryan with Harrison Ford......but I always thought that Ryan was a lot sexier.....maybe a younger Ford......

Re: When you read Kathy's novels...?
It's interesting to hear how everyone pictures Book Tempe and Ryan.
Thank you for the description, Cassiopeia. The first novel only said she was thin, then I just came across a short description at the beginning of Death Du Jour (5 foot 5, 120 pounds)... I guess I'm slowly piecing each of them together.
Every so often, I think of Ryan as looking like my brother in law, long skinny, blue eyes. But then, I picture myself as being Tempe since it's first person and I realize how wrong it is! Then I'm at a loss and don't know what to picture. *sigh* Ah, well. hehehe

Re: When you read Kathy's novels...?
I purposely just picture KR when I read the books. I don't want to get the show and the books mixed up in my mind.
Book Tempe has similarities with show Tempe but in so many ways she's very different.
I honestly don't have a picture in my head for Ryan. Her 'tight butt' notation from the first novel sticks in my head though

Re: When you read Kathy's novels...?
I'm now half way through Death Du Jour (after one day ) I picture Book Tempe as being very different from TV Tempe. Shorter, middle aged, ah, just as she's described. Nobody in particular, maybe me as an older woman? I don't know. Something like that. I picture Ryan as being a brunette, though. I'm not into blondes lol, so that's my reasoning. Other than that, I like his blue eyes (Windows 95 screen blue lol)
Re: When you read Kathy's novels...?
I saw once a beautiful swedish guy, who was tall, had wonderful ass and had deep blue eyes. So I picture him as Ryan.
I'll try to picture Kathy as book-Tempe, but its hard I don't know why.

I am not into blondes either! I think that's why I stick with the butt...
I don't want to picture him brunette though, or I can't help but see DB.

When I read about Ryan it'smore about a certain feeling than a picture. And yes, the butt-thing is stuk in my head.

This is how I picture him after that comment - like a youngish Harrison Ford.. he's really not Booth at all. I'm up to Bare Bones (just finished) and my picture of Tempe is growing. Shorter than the Brennan we know, fair.. she has described herself as having hazel eyes and being a US size 14/16 which is like a 10/12 in the UK - quite petite. She is so different in temperament too. I've found it really easy to separate all the characters and I love both Tempe's for different reasons!
I've only just got around to reading the books, but have devoured them voraciously - can't believe I'm already up to book 6!
Re: When you read Kathy's novels...?
Actually she's smaller than that. She said he weight is like 120 or so,in the first book. That puts her at more like a US size 6-8 for her height of 5'5".

This is why I can't understand all that fuzz about book Tempe being better/worse than TV Tempe... and people who have these Bones vs Kathy Reichs discussions... They have the same name, but that's almost all they have in common.

Re: When you read Kathy's novels...?
they only have the same name and the same job......but the rest is totally different......book-Tempe has a real family and is married to Pete......TV-Tempe has a very strange family......and Pete is only a past lover......no daughter too.....
they are so different that I really can't understand how anyone could make any connections between them
