Hint 1) what applies to music applies to art for me
Hint 2) I always look to the past before looking to the future
Hint 3) I always seek out the progenitor (originator) before the imitator.

So ideas such as tradition and that sort of thing are definitely the right line of thinking but don't overlook that the need to think outside the box goes hand-in-hand for me.
