Tell me about it. I could understand most of what I read but couldn't form a thought. I am kicking myself for the loss of what little I once knew to speak German.

it leaves so quickly. 2 years ago I could comfortably state I was fluent. :-( those days are gone

It would be an excellent trade-off. Have the conversation in German for you and then switch and let them practice their English. A win-win.

although my friend's twin just married a 40 year old. and they seem happy enough, at least for now.
